Mrs A. Bewley

"I was a pupil in this school during the Second World War. Part of the time we only had school half days. The Derby Road Infants' School stored the furniture from bombed houses. When we shared Widden School with Derby Road School we only had lessons half days.

In later years, my husband taught with Mr Cook the headteacher. I returned to Widden in 1974 as Clerical Assistant to the Infants and they almagamated I moved to the new school and left there in 1990.

I also remember the Queen's visit and that the children were disappointed that she didn't wear her crown"
