Betty was born in Highgate workhouse, coming with her mother and stepfather to live at Kemble when she was 3 years old. In conversation with Gwynne Brown, Betty remembers a childhood that wasn’t easy, seasonal jobs, and then working at Taylor’s Ford dealership firstly in Worcester St and then in Bristol Rd. She reveals her feelings about living in the Barton area.
