You can make out the Vauxhall Inn at the extreme left of the image below. In the 1907 Smart’s City street Directory, the buildings that existed between the junction with Blenheim Road and the Vauxhall were as follows (looking from right to left):
162 Barton Street – J Sterry, grocer
164 – G Poole, greengrocer
166 – J Green, stationer & newsagent
168 – L H Fearis, grocer
170 – P T Evans, picture frame maker
172 – Gloucester Co-operative Society
Can you match these premises with those shown on the photograph (you can see a larger image by clicking on it)?
The building to the right of the junction with Blenheim Road (number 160 Barton Street) was, in 1907, another greengrocer’s occupied by E Ravenhill.
